The challenge:
For GCap Media, the UK’s leading commercial radio group, digital and mobile channels offer both threats and opportunities. The question about the future of radio is not an idle thought but a serious strategic issue, and the answer will help shape the future of the company. GCap Media hired Fjord to help generate a vision and guiding lighthouse that defines the future role of radio in the lives of consumers.
Fjord’s role:
Fjord used design techniques to explore the near future of radio, working closely with Capital Radio, the largest commercial radio station in the UK. The trends and drivers identified were then evolved into a tangible and visual scenario of future radio use.
Our approach:
Fjord started by identifying the context and the position of radio in the digital landscape today, and defined the current strengths and unique properties of radio (Capital Radio in particular). Using design methodology Fjord then shaped a vision for the future of Capital Radio, and made it tangible through a linear movie that could be presented internally and externally. Finally, Fjord identified and highlighted future opportunities for user engagement and revenue generation.
Result:
A video that makes the future vision for radio tangible through examples of use in the daily life of consumers. A clear direction for digital developments at GCap Media, including agreed areas of focus, unique strengths, and likely areas of revenue generation.
